Welcome to Grey Central Public School

Jim Binns

Grey Central Public School is situated on a beautiful twenty-two acre parcel of land, bordered on the northwest by the Maitland River. Situated in Huron East near the small village of Ethel, we have a predominantly rural population of approximately 200 students in classes from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. All of our students are bussed to school. Our staff is expert and energetic, working together to foster literacy and numeracy skills in an atmosphere of trust, energy, caring and compassion.

Our School Council is active in school life, co-coordinating volunteers, preparing and running a breakfast program and generally providing parental leadership and education. The council meets every month in the school library. We are very proud to have many active parents and community members at every meeting.

Our building is approximately 39 years old but we had a major renovation in 1990 when four new classrooms were added, including two new JK/SK classrooms. Our library and computer resource centers are wonderfully equipped, recently having received a full array of modern hardware.

We have acres of play area for our students, including a tennis court, currently used for many and varied games. But our most impressive and unique feature is the Environmental Learning Program on our beautiful Environmental Learning Grounds. We have impressive trails along the river, where you can study the life habits of beaver and the many waterfowl that inhabit the area. You can study the river flow from the impressive river observation dock recently installed. We have an area of hardwood bush, a softwood stand and a meadow with pond and marsh. Again this year, we have contracted with the Maitland Conservation Authority to offer it’s environmental programs from our location.

I am pleased to welcome you to this site.  Be sure to take the virtual tour of our Environmental Learning Grounds.
